Anambas Islands March 2012

I finally got my chance to experience one of the northern most archipelagos of Indonesia, the Anambas Islands.  What a special place.  The whole experience surpassed all my expectations for fishing action, and beauty!  I will be returning soon.  Enjoy the slide show from my trip to the Anambas Islands.

As promised this week took me on another Kayak fishing adventure into some new waters off the central and southern coast of Java Indonesia. Three Giant Trevally where in my front hatch for the family, and after struggling to stay out of danger while battling these hook-ups for 20 minutes of hot action, I made a catch and release of a 20lb GT. The unpredictable and dangerous west wind direction wind put another 2 feet on the wind waves that made them start having consistent white-caps. The Beaufort wind scale calls this 5 out of 12. This meant I was being challenged with uncomfortable conditions!

The New Guy, 22km of Kayak Fishing Java

There is nothing like paddling out into waters that are new grounds. I got the chance to do just that last Saturday. The weather and waves along the south coast of Java, Indonesia have quieted down to nearly nothing allowing me the opportunity to jump on the Kayak put in a 22km day of Kayaking fishing and exploring new grounds. It was my chance to be the new guy!

Another Surf Trip

Another hidden Java surf trip is ending today as me and my son pack up the last boards, and rally to drive the 5 hours back to our family. The crew of 4 surfers traveling with us have all become new friends with lots of stories to tell from the lesser traveled side of Indonesia!

I was coming back through Jakarta last weekend and I found a great option for transport rather than taking a rip-off taxi! Take the DAMRI bus.

Java is the land of extremes.  It has remained a hidden overlooked Indonesian surf destination over the years. Now as Bali becomes a tourist / surfing mega crowd center, suddenly Java has some appeal for the adventurer.  It’s lower costs cater for any spectrum of budget, and great hidden beaches are always around the next bend of over 1000 km of coast from east to west. 

Java, Jakarta – East Train Help

Here is a short list of Train times for executive trains leaving Jakarta and heading east across Java.  Most will pass through major towns along the way.  Some are southern track routes and some are northern tracks.  Eastern most towns of all these options are Surabaya and Malang in East Java.
